Located
on the S.P. Long tract on the left bank of Tennessee River at mile 481, Land Map
no. 18. This cemetery contains 223 graves, the majority of which are well kept
and the general appearance is good. Lowest elevation is well above pool level.
present access is by private dirt road from the Birchwood Road through the
Maddux property to the cemetery, a distance of approximately 4000 feet. This
road is not in a good condition but appears passable for motor travel any time
of year. Sections of this road will be flooded and all means of access by motor
vehicle will be cut off. Due to the size, condition, activity and possible
demand for road access, this cemetery will require special consideration. The
only solution for road access is the construction of approximately 3500 feet of
tertiary road from the Birchwood Road to a point opposite the cemetery, with a
low fill on the "saddle" of the rise above 400 feet. An estimate of
the cost of this road could be procured from the Highway & Railroad
Division. It might be more economical to make removal optional with the
relatives of the dead as a number of request that they remain as Is. This will
also save moving the unknown graves.
