Notes for MACON MOORE CANNON:

Macon Moore Cannon was raised by his grandmother, Rebecca Crow. He married Alice Ella Skinner in 1907. They had three children, John M. and Alma and a third child that apparently died. Ella died in 1917. He later married Lela Belle Skinner in Summerville, Georgia. They moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, and lived at the Curtain Pole off Amnicola Highway (Curtain Pole is the name given the area around a curtain pole factory where employees built little houses to be near work). Macon and Lela had 4 children. At age 43, he died of pellagra. The children dispersed to live with relatives. Lela Belle remained in Chattanooga and later married James N. (Nip) McNalley.

Macon completed a WWI draft registration on September 12, 1918. He was a widower living at 414 Southern Street in East Chattanooga. He worked at the Curtain Pole Factory. His nearest relative was James B. Skinner, father-in-law, of Summerville, Georgia. Macon was listed as medium heigth, slender build, blue eyes, and light hair.

Hazel Vandergriff Lamb, age 74, lifelong resident of Signal Mountain, died Friday night (28 Aug). She was survived by a son, William Cannon, of Murfreesboro, TN; a sister, Mrs. Lillie Miller, of Chattanooga; a brother, Ceaner Vandergriff, of Signal Mountain, TN; and several nieces and nephews. She was buried in Fairmount Cemetery.

Mrs. Harry Vandergriff, aged 26, died at her home on Signal Mountain at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon after a lingering illness. Besides her husband she is survived by four children, Helen, Marguerite, Harry Jr, and James, all of Signal Mountain; two brothers, Ed Cannon of Hamilton, Ohio, and Macon Cannon of Chattanooga. Funeral services will be held at the Fairmount Church this afternoon at 2:30, the Rev. Sam Scott, assisted by the Rev. M. K. Hollister, officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairmount Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Seth Vandergriff, Foster Vandergriff, Siras Smith, John McMequier, Will McMequier, and Cris Durham.

When Macon M. Cannon, Sr., died, Macon, Jr. moved to Summerville, Georgia, to live with Lula and Clifford Norton. Lula was his Mother's sister. He later moved back to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to live with his half-brother, John M. Cannon and his wife Anna Mae. When his mother Lula Belle married Nip McNalley, they moved to the Hollow (near Five Points). While visiting his Mom, Macon met Margaret Wicks, a next-door neighbor. They were married in 1943 by Justice of the Peace Ray Crow in Rossville, Georgia. Margaret was 14 years old. In his later years, Macon was co-owner (with his brother James) of the Sinclair Station on Hwy 58 and the Mobil One station in Murray Hills on Hwy 58. Macon M. is burried in the Parkview Section of Greenwood Cemetery, Lot 67, Space 9.
