11.  SAMUEL3 HENRY (HUGH2, SAMUEL1) was born 13 July 1787 in Henry's Cross Roads, Sevier County, Tennessee, and died 16 March 1835 in Henry's Cross Roads, Sevier County, Tennessee.  He married MARGARET E. BRYAN 1822.  She was born 19 September 1799 in Sevier County, Tennessee, and died 9 August 1845 in Henry's Cross Roads, Sevier County, Tennessee.

 

Notes for SAMUEL HENRY:

Samuel Henry was a merchant, and in 1821 was the first postmaster at Henry's Cross Roads.  He served under General Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812.

(HUGH2, SAMUEL1) was born 11 April 1796 in Henry's Cross Roads, Sevier County, Tennessee, and died 29 April 1856 in Henrysville, Marshall County, Alabama.  He married (1) ANN BRYAN.  She was born in Tennessee.  He married (2) MARTHA (PATSY) GUNTER, daughter of JOHN GUNTER and KATHERINE GHE-GO-HE-LI.    He married (3) ANNIE CLANCH.    He married (4) SARAH WILLIAMS. 

 

Notes for HUGH HENRY, JR.:

He moved to Alabama before 1830, where is said to have the first white man to sell goods at Gunter's Landing.  He transported goods down the Tennessee River from East Tennessee to New Orleans.  He married four times.  His first wife was his cousin the daughter of Allen Bryan.  He was the father of four children.

 

Notes for MARTHA (PATSY) GUNTER:

She was half Cherokee Indian and the daughter of John Gunter, an old powder maker and Indian trader, who settled at Gunter's Landing (later Guntersville) in Alabama.

Anna (Clanch) Fields was the widow of the famous Cherokee Chieftan Richard Fields.

Notes for JAMES HENRY:

James Henry was a witness in the State vs William Buckhannon April 26, 1815 (Rhea County Tennessee Minute Docket C. 1813-1815).  Tuesday July 25, 1815 was appointed overseer of road from William Henry's to E. Henry's in room of Philip Paine. (Rhea County Minute Docket C Court of Pleas and Quarter Session, July 1813-July 1815, page 140)  He went to Bibb County, Alabama with his brothers about 1819 and is found in court records there.  Further research is needed.

29.  JOHN3 HENRY (EZEKIEL2, SAMUEL1) was born Abt. 1795 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, and died 1845 in Centerville, Bibb County, Alabama.  He married ELIZABETH WILLIAMS 10 October 1816 in Rhea County, Tennessee.  She was born in North Carolina, and died 1848 in Bibb County, Alabama.

 

Notes for JOHN HENRY:

He went to Bibb County, Alabama about 1819.  They lived at Centerville where he built what is now the Kennedy Hotel on the courthouse square. It served as their home as well as a stage stop.  He was elected Sheriff of Bibb County in 1829.

Court records show an order to sell negroes and other personal property dated January, 1845.  Shows he was deceased at the time.  His daughter Mariah filed for settlement at age 21 7/12/1855

30.  HUGH3 HENRY (EZEKIEL2, SAMUEL1) was born Abt. 1800 in Rhea County, Tennessee, and died Abt. 1838 in Centerville, Bibb County, Alabama.  He married (1) LYDIA HARGASS 1 November 1821.    He married (2) DIDIMIAH CATES 1 October 1826 in Centerville, Bibb County, Alabama.  She was born Abt. 1811 in Georgia, and died 26 November 1871 in Perry County, Alabama.

 

Notes for HUGH HENRY:

He moved from Rhea County, Tennessee to Bibb County, Alabama about 1819. He also served as Justice of the Peace of Bibb County.  He was also a farmer and lived about six miles east of Centerville, Alabama.  Hugh and his relative Col. John Henry were the principal law enforcement officials during the formative years of Bibb County.  He is said to be buried in Sandy Chapel Cemetery in Centerville, Alabama.

 

He claimed a section of land approximately 6 miles east of the present courthouse in Centerville.  The closest settlement to this claim was Six Mile, Alabama.
