PENNEY, MRS. BERTIE, 70, of Soddy, Tenn., died at the residence Wednesday at noon after a lingering illness. She was the daughter of the late Tom and Jane Fox Clayton, pioneer settlers of Meigs County. Mrs. Penney has lived in the Soddy Daisy area for the past 56 years and was a member of the Soddy Church of God. Survivors, husband, George Penney, Soddy, one son, Lewis Penney, Soddy; three daughters, Mrs. Bernard Johnson, Mrs. Virgil Caldwell, Soddy; Mrs. Self Olive, Florence, Ala., two sisters, Mrs. Gertie McGill, Soddy, Mrs. Hattie Shelton, Fontana, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday from the Soddy Church of God by the Revs. Bruce Vanoer, Lewis Hickman and George Wampler. Interment will follow in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be nephews, John McGill, Allen Shelton, Reece Clayton, Warren Clayton, Clifford Adams and Bob Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be the Mother's Class of the Soddy Church of God. The body will remain at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Williamson-Garrison Funeral Home, Highway 27, Daisy.
