William Alvis "Red" Smith



SMITH - WILLIAM ALVIS “RED”, 78, of 3115 E. 44th St., died Thursday at his home.  A Alabama native, he lived in the Chattanooga area most of his life.  He retired from Crane Enamel after over 42 years of service and was a member of East Lake Lodge 698 F&AM.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Smith, and was of the Baptist faith.  Survivors include five daughters, Eveline Colkitt, Nadine Brown, Vaunda Beinert, Juanita Smith and Marcheta Henley, all of Chattanooga; sister, Bonnie Ridge, Apison; two brothers, Harl Smith and J. Herman Goodman, both of Ooltewah; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Billy Kennedy officiating.  Graveside services in Hamilton Memorial Gardens will be conducted by East Lake Lodge 698 F&AM.  The family will receive friends after 2 p.m. today at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
