VANHOOSER - GENE NELSON, 51, of 1735 Eagle Drive, Hixson, died Friday in a local hospital. A native of Whitwell, Tenn., he had lived in Chattanooga the part 25 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of VFW Post 4848 and Red bank Lodge 717 F&AM. He was an employee of U. S. Pipe and Foundry. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Shrum VanHooser; two sons, Gary G. and Bruce D. VanHooser, all of Hixon; mother, Letha Layne Baker, Chattanooga; sister, Mrs. Milton (Ruth) Lockhart, East Ridge; two brothers, George E. VanHooser and Larry Baker, both of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John W. Livingston officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park, with Red Bank Lodge 717 F&AM in charge of graveside services. The family will receive friends after noon today at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
