W. J. Bradford, 69, Grocer, Is Dead
He Was Leader in St. Elmo Methodist Church - Rites to Be Conducted Today
William J. Bradford, 69, prominent grocer and leader in the St. Elmo Methodist
Church, died yesterday at his home, 1808 West Fifty-sixth street.
Mr. Bradford had operated a grocery in St. Elmo for the past fifteen
years. He had been a member of the Methodist church for forty-one years and
several times was designated at the annual Father's day services at the church
as the official father of the congregation.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Zelphia Bradford; two daughters, Mrs. B.
M. Stansifer and Mrs. James L. Puffer; five sons, Archie D. Bradford, Roy A.
Bradford, Lawrence J. Bradford, Frank W. Bradford and Finley S. Bradford, all of
Chattanooga; sister Mrs. Walter S. Miller of Phoenix, Ariz.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Elmo Methodist church at 2:30
o'clock this afternoon, the Revs. E. E. Wiley, W. H. Harrison, Barto McFarland
and W. S. Neighbors officiating.
Interment will be in Thurman cemetery in St. Elmo. The body is at the
residence, but will be at the church after 12:30 p.m.
Pallbearers, active, Glenn Graham, Tom Keef, Allen Loudenber, Chester
Cannon, S. D. Peterson and W. P. Bales; honorary, Harry Lauter, C. S. Peterson,
G. C. Cade, Members of the Lookout Bible class and members of the board of
stewards of the church.
