Retired From U.S. Postal Service After 40 Years
Douglas C. Burns, 85, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.
He served during WWII in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific on the USS Lawrence. Was retired from the U.S. Postal Service with over 40 years of service, and was a lifelong member of the NALC and VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Burns, daughters, Rebecca (John) Hooper of Chattanooga; Elizabeth Burns of Norfolk, Va., and Carla (Horace) Silas of Dumfries, Va.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 8, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Ken Clark officiating.

Family and friends will assemble at the Office/Admin Building in the Cemetery at 10:15 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 7, from 5-8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
