Roy Davis, 87, died at his residence, March 15, 2007.
He was the son of the late Sim and Cora Davis, and was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Ramsey Garrett.
Roy was born in 1919 and attended East Chattanooga Grammar School, Meadow View School and graduated valedictorian from Birchwood High School. He attended North East Trade School where he met his wife of 64 years, Roberta Gardner.
In 1942, he served as a sergeant major in the United States Army in Europe with the 280th Station Hospital.
Roy was a renaissance man, who worked for Davenport Hosiery Mill until it closed; owned Trading Post Grocery and Roy's Restaurant on Highway 58. He built a barber shop, beauty shop and dental office, leasing and operating them until 1975. He owned and operated five radio stations including WSIM, 94.3 FM, in Red Bank and WEDG AM, in Soddy Daisy, which was donated to Lee University.
