E. H. Hiney, pioneer resident of Chattanooga, died yesterday
morning at his home, 1603 Chamberlain avenue, at the age of 84
Funeral services will be held this morning at 9 o'clock at
SS. Peter and Paul's Catholic church, with Rt. Rev. Monsignor F. T. Sullivan
officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.
Mr. Heiny had been active in the city's growth and development for many
years. For a number of years and until his retirement he was in the grocery
business. In 1895 he was elected to the board of public works and was assigned
as police commissioner. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul's church, the
Knights of Columbus, Catholic Knights and the Turnverein society. He had been in
poor health for a considerable time preceding his death.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Barbara Jones, Mrs. Anna Steiner, Mrs.
E. F. Melding, Miss Agnes Heiny and Mrs. Mary Barnes. There are also sixteen
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Oscar Jones, Paul Jones, Ed Steiner, Frank Steiner,
Joseph Barnes, and Lewis Barnes, all grandsons of the deceased. O'Donohue's in
charge.
