William Taft
Hickey, 94, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at his
residence.
A native of Polk County, Tennessee, Mr. Hickey was a charter member of South
Seminole Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
He retired from Standard Coosa-Thatcher following 40 years of service and he
continued to work for twenty more years in landscaping and tree service
business. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy Seabees and held
memberships with the Civil War Round Table and Chattanooga Relic Club. Mr.
Hickey was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Louise Hickey,
parents, Mr. & Mrs. William Harrison Hickey, seven brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his daughters, Mary Margaret Guinn, Ringgold, GA, & Doris
Crane, East Ridge; son, William L. Hickey, Titusville, FL; nine grandchildren,
nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, several nieces &
nephews, and special friend, Louise Ensley.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel
with Rev. Ron Perry officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga
National Cemetery with full military honors. A special thanks to Loretta
Gordon, niece, & husband Virgil, & friend, Mrs. Dean Barger, for the special
love & care they gave him.
Memorial contributions may be made to South Seminole Baptist Church Senior Bus
Fund, 1201 S. Seminole Drive, East Ridge, TN 37412.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 6 - 8 p.m. & Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m.
at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
