Mine Operator for 43 Years - Presbyterian Elder for 50 Years
David
O. Hickman, well-known Soddy farmer and mine operator, died late yesterday
afternoon at his home. He was 88.
A
pioneer settler in the community, Mr. Hickman operated coal mines in the Soddy
area 43 years. In later years he
became widely known as a peach and strawberry farmer.
Mr.
Hickman was an elder of the Presbyterian Church at Soddy for 50 years.
He
is survived by his wife, Frances Hickman; two daughters, Mrs. Winnie Walker and
Mrs. W. J. Hughes of Soddy; two sons, Sam H., Soddy, and W. J., Williamson, W.
Va.; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced.
