Criminal Court Judge Was Adjunct Professor At UTC
Russell C. Hinson, 83, formerly of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, December 13,
2009, in Duluth, Ga., where he and his late wife, Earlyne had moved in 2004 to
live with their daughter and son-in-law.
Mr. Hinson was born Feb 12, 1926, in Moss, Tn., to H.B. (Bud) and Jewel Hinson
and was a longtime, active member of Brainerd Church of Christ.
He graduated from Tennessee Technological University and Vanderbilt Law School
and served in the Marines in WWII.
He and his family moved to Chattanooga in 1957 where he practiced law until he
was appointed Sessions Court Judge in 1962. Then he was appointed Criminal Court
Judge in 1965 where he served until retirement in 1996. He was known for
fairness and impartiality and for his knowledge and adherence to the law.
He was also an adjunct professor at UTC for many years in the Criminal Justice
department.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Earlyne Hinson on November 3,
2009.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Rick Bullock, three
grandsons, Rusty, Jody and Zach, seven nieces and eight nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to Brainerd Church of Christ.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Chattanooga
National Cemetery with military honors.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the funeral
home with Minister John Cupp officiating.
