Mrs. Adeline Lewis Hixson, 88, a lifelong resident of Hixson,
where she had long been known as Granny died at her home early yesterday
morning.
She was a member of the Hixson Methodist Church. She was a bride during
the War Between the States, having married an officer in the Union Army.
Surviving are seven sons, E., J. H., Charles, Timothy, Wheeler, Joe and Frank.
Three daughters, Mrs. J. W. Gooden, Mrs. Monroe Vandergriff, of Hixson, and Mrs.
Bob Ables, of Rockwood; sixty-two grandchildren and eighty-six great-grand
children. Funeral services will be held from the Hixson Methodist Church at 2
o'clock this afternoon, the Revs. J. G. Blessingame and J. L. Patterson
officiating. Interment will be in Hixson cemetery. Pallbearers will be
Active: Houston, Elmer, Luther, Dan and Howard Hixson, Floyd Gooden, Lee
Vandergriff, and Howard Bales, all grandsons. Honorary: Allele Hixson, Dan
Pots, P. W. Phipps, Hick Hamill, Henley Shannon, and George Hixson.
Coulter's will be in charge.

Elizabeth Adeline Lewis Hixson was born 5 June 1848 in Daisy,
TN, daughter of John Lewis of North Carolina and her mother is thought to be
Elizabeth Swafford. She married during the midst of the Civil War on 3
April 1864 at Falling Water to Timothy Stringfield Hixson, son of Ephraim
Hixson, Jr., and Margaret Hixson Hixson.
