Bertha Hixson Lockett

LOCKETT, MRS. BERTHA HIXSON, 72,  a resident of 922 Davis St., Prattville, and formerly of Montgomery, died Friday in a Montgomery hospital.  Funeral arrangements will be announced by White-Gamberg.  Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Loretta Hoof, and Mrs. Ruth Johnson, both of Prattville, Mrs. Lorine Cream, of Atlanta, GA, Mrs. Lillian White of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Pauline Saucier of Long Beach, Miss., three sons, Paul, Thomas, and Charles Lockett, all of Prattville, two brothers, Grover Hixson, Prattville, Fred Hixson of Hixson, Tenn., several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren.

    Bertha Hixson was born in Hixson, TN, February 11, 1900, daughter of Timothy L. and Tennie Brooks Hixson. She married Thomas Preston Lockett of Knoxville, TN, born 11 August 1877, died 14 March 1944, son of Thomas Frank and Sarah Rush Lockett.  After T. P. Lockett died, she married twice again, Mr. Urban Hoffman of Deerfield, MI, and Mr. Thomas Mitchell of Birmingham, AL.  All her children were born of the marriage with Mr. Lockett: Herman who died in a car accident at age 18, Pauline, Ruth, Lorine, James William who died an infant, Lillian Mae, Tom, Jr., Charles, Paul (Buddy), Alvin Lee who died an infant, Martha Jeanette who died an infant, John Wallace who died an infant, and Loretta. Bertha is buried at Faith Baptist Church Cemetery, in Prattville, Alabama.
