CREED B. HIXSON DEAD AT AGE 74. HAMILTON COUNTY NATIVE BELONGED TO HIGHLAND PARK
BAPTIST.
Creed Bates Hixson, 74 of 3214 114th Ave. member of a well known Hamilton County
family and great-grandson of Ephraim Hixson, for whom the town of Hixson was
named, died Saturday in a hospital here. A native of Hamilton County, he
was the son of the late James Taylor and Lil Smith Hixson. He was a member
of the Highland Park Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the church. Mr.
Hixson was a member of Iron Workers Local No. 704 of Chattanooga, a veteran of
World War I and a graduate of Hiwassee College. Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Janie Hixson of Chattanooga; two sons, Kenton Hixson of Chattanooga and the Rev.
James Hixson of East Lansing, Michigan; four sisters, Mrs. Hallie Hamill of
Hixson, Mrs. Bessie Brown of Johnson City, TN, Mrs. Juanita Seillers of Salsbarg,
Tenn., and Mrs. Amy Way of Hixson; a brother, Raymond Hixson of Fort Pierce,
Fla., five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. the funeral will be
at 3 p. m. Monday in the West Chapel of the Chattanooga funeral by Dr. Lee
Roberson and Dr. J. R. Faulkner. Burial will be in Greenwood.
Pallbearers will be nephews of Mr. Hixson. Honorary pallbearers will be
members of the Men's bible Class of Highland Park Baptist Church. The body
is at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, West Chapel.

Creed Bates Hixson was born 3 Sept. 1892. He married Janie B.
Hames in Rossville, GA on August 30. 1924, daughter of John Thomas Hames and
Nora Alice Richardson Hames of Walker Co., GA. Children of Creed and Janie
Hixson were:
Kenton Thomas who married Vivian Robinson, and James Webster who married Lou
Annie Pinson. James Webster Hixson is the author of the book, "Hixsons
on the Warpath".
