Loy Layne Hixson died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at a local
nursing home. She was 95. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church
where she was teacher of the children's classes and was treasurer of the
Dye-Wesley class.
She taught kindergarten at Northside Neighborhood House and worked in the PTA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Hixson.
Survivors include a son, Everett L. Hixson, Chattanooga; daughters, Shirley H.
Harper, Chattanooga, and Gaynell H. Smith, Rocky Face, Ga.; sister, Blanche
Turner, Whitwell, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga
Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Sneed and the Rev. Sullins Lamb officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday
at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Loy Lane Hixson was born about 1905. She married George Washington Hixson
who was the son of Colonel Anderson Hixson and Zena Louvenia Elizabeth Alexander
of Sequatchie Co., TN. Her son Everett L. Hixson married Shirley Louise Griffin
in 1953.
