       MELVIN H. HIXSON- 52 years old. Lifelong resident of Hixson died 8:30 Thursday at his home after a long illness.  Surviving are his wife, four sons, Charlie, Willard, Melvin, and Matt. One daughter Thelma.  Three sisters Mrs. Leona Bailey, and Mrs. Maggie Elliot, both of Hixson, and Mrs. Lou Gibson of Chattanooga.  Funeral services will be held from the residence at 2:00 this afternoon, the Revs. Blessingame an Putnam officiating.  Burial will be in Hixson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be I. H. & W. W. Bailey, Houston Elliot, Houston Gibson, Creed Hixson, & Creed Vandergriff.  Honorary pallbearers are: T. O. Silman, L.M. Phipps, Joe Clift, Tom Schneider, Randolph Howell, Judge Will Cummings.  Arrangements by Wanns.

    Melvin Houston Hixson (Mel) was born 6 Jan 1874, son of Houston Hixson and Nancy Barker.  His first wife was Allie E. Brown, born 12 Aug 1877, died 11 December 1920, daughter of John McKinney Brown, Sr., and Eliza K. Martin. They had two sons, Willard and Charles.  After Allie died, Mel married Maude Mae Brown, born 29 April 1899, died 30 June 1992, daughter of Lemuel Jeremiah Brown and Dorcas Isabella Hudson.  Melvin and Maude Mae had children: Thelma Elizabeth who married George Franklin Henry, Melvin Houston, Jr., who married Burma Whitlow, and Matthew D. who married twice, to Marjorie ??? and Nell Doris Smith.
