Mrs. Tennie, age 82, died Monday night at her residence 750 Popular St.
Survivors are two daughters Mrs. Bertha Lockett of Chattanooga, Mrs. Carrie R.
Watkins of Chattanooga, three sons, Fred Hixson of Hixson, Tenn.; Earl Hixson of
Tennessee, and Grover Hixson of Chattanooga; one brother Wilbert Brooks
Cleveland Tenn.; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the R. J. Coulter Funeral Home.
Tennessee Lemons Brooks was born 15 March 1874, the names of her parents have
never been located. Whenever she
wrote her own name, she used Tennie Brooks, but the family always wrote her name
Tennie Lemons. There was a Carl
Brooks who signed her visitation book at her funeral, but no relationship has
been determined. It is believed she was not from Hamilton County, but somewhere
else in Tennessee. No one in the
family recalls her ever seeing members of her family visit.
