Wheeler Hixson, 62, died at his home in Hixson early
yesterday morning. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leona Hixson, seven
daughters, Mesdames John Dale, Walter Gadd, Eulis Davis, Clint Davidson, and
Ralph Dobbs, and Misses Marie and Ruth Hixson; three sons, Robert, Murrell, and
Virgil Hixson; three sisters, Mesdames Monroe Vandergriff, J. W. Gooden, and Bob
Ables; four brothers, J. H., Timothy, Charles and Frank Hixson.
Funeral services will be held from the Hixson Baptist Church at 2:30 O'clock
this afternoon, the Rev. E. C. Harris officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Harry Vandergriff, Luther, Houston, and Elmer Hixson,
Herman Gooden, Sam Wilson and Howard Ables; honorary, Marion Wilson, J. B. Gadd,
Willie Rawlston, David Hixson, L. M. Phipps and Albert Penny. Interment
will be in the Hixson Cemetery. Coulter's will be officiating.

General Wheeler Hixson was born January 15, 1876, son of
Timothy Stringfield and Adeline Lewis Hixson. He married 4 January 1899 in
Hamilton County to Sarah Leona Vandergriff, born 6 Sept 1869, died 17 January
1947, daughter of William and Eliza Vandergriff. Leona's brother, Monroe Thomas
Vandergriff, married Wheeler's sister Sally Hixson. Wheeler and
Leona had children: Roy who died young, Addie Evelyn who married twice to John
Dahl and Bob Davis, Hester who married Walter Gadd, Robert Edward who married
Haven Bearden, Artie who married Eulis Davis, Murl William who married
Sylvia Lee Bearden, Cloie Edith who married Clint Davidson, Bessie Leona, Virgil
who married twice to Lorraine Metcalf and Juanita Smith, Dorothy Catherine,
Sallie Marie who married George Ferguson, and Betty Ruth who married twice to
William H. Phillips and Huel Rogers.
