Cox - Mrs. Sallie Roberts, 61,
wife of R. E. Cox of Dayton, Tenn., passed away in a Chattanooga
hospital early Saturday evening after a lingering illness. She was the
daughter of the late W. R. Roberts and Addie Roberts, a prominent family
of Hixson, Tenn. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church and the Order of the Eastern Star No. 360 in Dayton, Tenn, and a
past matron of the Daisy chapter. Survivors are her husband, three sons,
C. M. Cox, Soddy, Billy M. Cox and John Robert Cox, both of Gadsden,
Ala.; one sister, Mrs. Nancy Gann, Chattanooga; three brothers, Sam
Roberts, Hixson, Macon L. and H. Cecil Roberts, both of Chattanooga;
also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted
Monday at 2 p.m. from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Dayton with
the Revs. Dr. J. Furman Miller and Dr. T. C. Mercer officiating.
Interment will be in Poe Cemetery, Daisy. Honorary pallbearers will be
Elmer Kelly, J. M. Abel, William Hillary, W. C. Hillary, L. E. Pack, J.
B. Hutcheson, C. C. Morrow, G. C. Hensley, Fred Robinson, Dr. Albert
Easley, Dr. Durwood Kirk and the revs. V. H. Wilkie, Malcolm Jollay, and
Virgil Peters. Active pallbearers will be the following nephews: Robert
Varner, Warren Varner, Reed Roberts, Paul Roberts,Harry Roberts and
David Roberts. The body will remain in the funeral home until one hour
before the services when it will be taken to the church to lie in state.
