Sheriff's Deputy For 23 Years
Robert Lee "R.L." Monger Jr., 85, of Harrison, died on Friday,
June 3, 2011.
A lifelong resident of Hamilton County, he served 23 years as a deputy
sheriff in the Hamilton County Sheriffï's Department, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of New Shepherd Hill Baptist Church, which his late
parents were involved in founding. An Army Air Corps veteran of World
War II, he was also a member of East Lake Masonic Lodge #698.
Preceding R.L. in death were his parents, Robert L. Monger Sr., and
Minnie Lewis Monger; daughter, Scarlett Fay "Pebbles" Monger; sisters,
Kathleen McCullough, Hazel Hullander, Lena Mae Hickman, Betty Jean Moon.
R.L. is survived by his wife, Barbara Scroggins Monger; daughter, Sheila
Kay Ward and son-in-law, Oscar "Big O" Ward, Ooltewah; granddaughter,
Kimberly M. (Tom) Rader, Ooltewah; great-granddaughter, Alexis M. Green;
stepgreat-grandson, Coby Rader; brother-in-law, Lloyd (Mary) Scroggins;
niece, Sandra S. Smith; nephew, Harry P. Scroggins; several other nieces
and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-1:45 p.m. on Monday, June
6, at Turner Funeral Home, Highway 58 Chapel.
The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home chapel
with John Cupp officiating. Interment with military honors will follow
in New McDonald Eastview Cemetery.
