Asa
B. Nicholson, 79, retired Chattanooga postal clerk and long prominent in G.O.P.
politics of public county before going to Chattanooga 35 years ago passed away
at his Chattanooga home Thursday. Mr. Nicholson was born in Polk county, living
at Benton for a number of years; where he taught in the local schools, later
becoming superintendent of the schools there. He also was postmaster at Benton,
justice of the peace and chairman of the county court of Polk county. Mr.
Nicholson came to Chattanooga in 1905 and has resided here since. He was a
retired postal employee and a member of the Masonic Lodge 660. He was active in
church work being a member of the Ridgedale Methodist church and organizer of
the Nicholson Bible class which he taught for twenty-five years. Mr. Nicholson
married Miss Nallie Clemmer in 1885 , who preceded him in death in December,
1938. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs,. Charles L. Price, of Miami, Fla. Miss
Mary Wayne Nicholson of Chattanooga; two sons Jacob Nichoison, or Norris, Tenn,.
and Walter Nicholson. of Chattanooga; one brother. R. T. Nicholson. of Benton,
Tenn,. and one grandson, Charles Boyd Nicholson. Funeral services were held in
Chattanooga this afternoon, the Revs. W. M. Grier, James Henley and Wallace
Fowler Officating. Interment was in Memorial Park. Several prominent Benton
citizens attended the rites.
