PHILLIPS
- GEORGE W., aged 78, died suddenly Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home
of his son, Arthur Phillips, 2700 East Forty-sixth street, East Lake. He was a
resident of Coulterville, Tenn., for forty-two years and was a lovely Christian
character, having been an active member of the church since the age of 14 years.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. D. E. Lee, Mrs. J. T. Scroggins, A.
T. Phillips, Mrs. T. A. Bailey, Mrs. J. C. Miller, Mrs. T. A. Strickland, all of
Chattanooga; Mrs. C. A. Trundle, of Ringgold, Ga.; Mrs. Brown C. Jones, of Sale
Creek, Tenn.; Mrs. G. W. Sirls, of Nashville; W. A. Phillips, of Harriman; a
stepson, Alvin T. Kelley, of Graysville, Tenn.; sisters, Mrs. M. L. Pittman, of
Fort Worth, Tex.; Mrs. S. L. Hammond, of Trion, Ga.; thirty-nine grandchildren
and thirty-four great-grandchildren. Mr. Phillips' kindly disposition endeared
him to all with whom he came in contact and he will be greatly missed by his
great number of friends. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by
Coulter's.

- Funeral services for George W. Phillips, 78 who passed away Saturday night,
will be held this morning at 10 o'clock from the South Rossville Church of God,
the Rev. Ernest T. Fowler officiating. Interment in Nelson cemetery at
Coulterville, Tenn. Pallbearers will be grandsons of the deceased. Coulter's in
charge.
