John Thomas Stiff

  John T. Stiff was born at Dallas, Tenn, December 15, 1839. His younger life was passed in Lafayette, Ga. He served in the confederate army. He came to Chattanooga in 1865 and remained until 1880 spending the remainder of his life on Lookout mountain where he died March 14, 1894, leaving a widow, seven sons and two daughters. Mr. Stiff was one of the first carriers of The Chattanooga Times. He was in mercantile business with G. H. Jarnagin, who speaks of his very great care to be absolutely prompt in meeting his business obligations.
