Thurman,
Raymond M., 73 of Ooltewah, Tenn., died Wednesday afternoon in a local hospital.
Mr. Thurman was the son of the late Jane Hamill and John Thurman who were
prominent St. Elmo settlers. He was a member of the Ooltewah Methodist Church
and had been a resident of the Ooltewah Community for more than 65 years. A
veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion and a member of
the Half Century Club. He was past member of the Ooltewah Masonic Lodge No. 741
F&AM, where he had been a member for more than 50 years. He was a retired
farmer. Mr. Thurman is survived by several nieces and nephews, Mrs. Mabel Payne,
Mrs. Gladys Camp, Mrs. Howard V. Shutters,
Mrs. Roy Owens, Mrs. W. W. Woodward, Mrs. Francis Daub, Charles Payne,
Early Payne, Harold Payne, Robert Payne, Willard Thurman, Paul Thurman, Allen
Powell, Kenneth Powell. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the
East Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. A. W. Clear officiating.
Interment will be in Thurman Family Cemetery, St. Elmo, Tennessee. Ooltewah
Masonic Lodge will have charge of graveside services. The body is at the
Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel.
