    John Valentine Trotter, 57, real estate man and former chairman of the Hamilton County school board, died early yesterday morning at his home, 1411 Duncan avenue, after a long illness.

    Mr. Trotter was born Feb. 3, 1882. He was educated at the University of Chattanooga and played on the football team. He took degrees both in law and the arts.

    After graduation he taught in the county schools and was principal of various schools for about eight years before becoming chairman of the board of education, in which post he served eight years.

    In 1916 he went into the real estate business, and during the period of 1924, 1925 and 1926 he was very active, having built between sixty and seventy homes in one year. He served as president of the Chattanooga Real Estate board one year.
    He was active for many years as a member, chairman of the board and steward of the Northside Methodist church here. He was also a Sunday school teacher.

    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mamie Trotter; two sons, Lee Allen and William K. Trotter; two daughters Misses Mildred and Betty Fay Trotter; one brother, W. H. Trotter of Los Angeles; six sisters, Mrs. F. E. Irvin, Washington, D. C.; Mrs. C. J. Henry, Leander, Tex.; Mrs. J. B. Headrick, Mrs. J. H. Walker, Mrs. W. W. Walker and Mrs. G. W. Brewer, all of Sevierville, Tenn.

    Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Mark’s Methodist church, the Rev. W. C. Daniels and the Rev. N. W. Dalenberg officiating.

    Interment will be in Spring Place cemetery near Dalton, Ga., where a short service will be held at the grave at 3:30 o’clock.

    Pallbearers, active, Lessley Runyan, J. S. Gamble, T. G. Gwilliam, R. M. McGahee, F. H. Trotter, C. E. Clift, W. R. Suttonand J. P. Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be J. O. Andes, W. J. Engle, W. I. Trevena, G. H. Trevena, Wesley Butler, Lewis Trotter, Dave Huffaker, John Whittenburg, Wm. Allen, C. K. Stiprais, Will Bedoit, and C. H. Schenck.

Trotter; daughters, Mildred and Betty Fay Trotter; brother, W. H. Trotter, Los Angeles; sisters, Mrs. F. E. Irvin, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. C. J. Henry, Leander, TX; Mrs. J. B. Headrick, Mrs. J. H. Walker, Mrs. W. W. Walker, Mrs. G. W. Brewer, all of Sevierville.  Funeral services this afternoon 1:30 o'clock at St. Mark's Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. W. C. Daniels and N. W. Dalenberg.  Short services at the grave at 3:30 o'clock.  Interment Spring Place Cemetery, near Dalton, GA.
