John Huston Poe
POE - JOHN HUSTON, 87, prominent pioneer resident of Ooltewah, Tenn., died at his residence on Mulberry Street in Ooltewah Thursday morning. Funeral will be held at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon in the chapel of J. Avery Bryan Co., Rev. William A. Adams and Rev. Burl McMillan officiating. Mr. Poe had been a member of the Ooltewah Methodist Church since 1898 and held the oldest membership in the church. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Lillie Maude Poe, Ooltewah; three sons, Grady L. Poe, O. Vergil Poe and John Reese Poe, all of Ooltewah; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Stewart, Chattanooga, and Mrs. Debbie Houser, Lakeview, Ga.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Ooltewah Cemetery. Active pallbearers: Curtis Poe, Raymond Poe, W. A. Varnell, Robert Stewart, Paul Moore and Louis Varnell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Sunday School Class of the Ooltewah Methodist Church. The body is at the funeral home of J. Avery Bryan Co.
