Alexander Murray Roper, aged 34, died last night at 8:45
o'clock at a local hospital following an illness of only a few weeks duration.
He has for the past six months been a purchasing agent for the Signal Mountain
Portland Cement company of this city, and was until that time connected with the
American Steel company and the Cuban Portland Cement Works, of Havana, Cuba. He
lived in Cuba for ten years before coming to this city with his family to
reside, and was well known among the Americans there. He was a member of the
Cheraw Lodge, F. and A. M., of Cheraw, S.C. for several years. He is survived by
his widow and one daughter, Mary Elizabeth, both of this city. Mr. Roper had
also been a member of the Episcopal church for many years. His body was removed
to Wann's funeral parlor last night, and the complete arrangements will be
announced later.
