He has for the past six months been a purchasing agent for the Signal Mountain Portland Cement company of this city, and was until that time connected with the American Steel company and the Cuban Portland Cement Works, of Havana, Cuba. He lived in Cuba for ten years before coming to this city with his family to reside, and was well known among the Americans there. He was a member of the Cheraw Lodge, F. and A. M., of Cheraw, S.C. for several years. He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mary Elizabeth, both of this city. Mr. Roper had also been a member of the Episcopal church for many years. His body was removed to Wann's funeral parlor last night, and the complete arrangements will be announced later.
