SHAHAN – MRS. MYRTIS CAVENDER, widow of Lee N. Shahan, of
930 Oak St., died early Monday morning in the Bradley County Nursing Home. A
native of Georgia, Mrs. Shahan was the daughter of Joseph and Martha Clements
Cavender. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the first teacher of
the Shahan Bible Class which she taught for 42 years. She also was a member of
the Woman’s Missionary Union. Survivors are one son, Maxwell Lee Shahan,
Maryville, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. Llewellyn Chapman, Chattanooga; five
grandchildren. Lee Morgan Shahan, Maryville, Tenn.; Lt. Larry Austin Shahan, Ft.
Sill, Okla.; Judy Shahan, Maryville, Tenn.; Llewellyn Chapman, Memphis, Tenn.,
and Mrs. Jean Chapman Kollmansperger, Chattanooga; eight great-grandchildren,
and two sisters, Mrs. C H. Magill and Mrs. B. W. Beck, both of Chattanooga.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church,
with Dr. Luther Joe Thompson and Rev. Billy Wallace officiating. Burial will be
in Forest Hills Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Shahan
Bible Class. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions may
be made to the Shahan Bible Class Missionary Fund. The body will lie in state
one hour at the church before the service. The body is at Wann Funeral Home.
