Dies At Age 71

Services Are Scheduled Friday for Retired Businessman

 

            Leon C. Stone, 71, Ooltewah-Ringgold Road, died at his residence Wednesday afternoon.

            Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a. m. in the West Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. J. Fred Johnson officiating.

            Burial will be in the Forest Hills Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Thomas Kittle, Cleve Hooper, J. R. Tallent, William Gibson, Hoke Parton and J. C. Gibson.

            Honorary pallbearers will be C. G. Acuff, Robert Knauff, T. J. McKinney, Homer Lawrence, Charles R. Mills and Lon Imsey.

            Stone was a retired employee of Quality Produce Co. Prior to this he had managed the East Brainerd Dairy 12 years, and earlier had been manager of Stone Battery Co.

            Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Hamill Stone; two daughters, Miss Dorothy T. Stone and Mrs. Betty Thigpen, and two sons, Lem C. Stone Jr. and James G. Stone, all of Chattanooga; four brothers, Roger W. Stone and Burl R. Stone, of Ooltewah; F. Rettig Stone of Mount Pleasant, Tex., and Ed Stone of McDonald; a sister, Mrs. Belle Brewer of Ooltewah, and seven grandchildren.

            The body is in the West Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Retired Businessman

 

            Leon C. Stone, 71, Ooltewah-Ringgold Road, formerly with East Brainerd Dairy and Quality Produce Co., died at home Wednesday afternoon.

            Before moving to the Westview community, Mr. Stone lived in Chattanooga and operated Stone Battery Co. until 1930. He ran the East Brainerd Dairy for 12 years and was associated with Quality Produce until his retirement.

            He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Hamil Stone; two daughters, Miss Dorothy T. Stone and Mrs. Betty Thigpen; two sons, Leon C. Stone Jr., and James G. Stone; four brothers, Roger W. Stone and Burl R. Stone, both of Ooltewah; F. Rettig Stone, Mt. Pleasant, Tex., Ed Stone, McDonald, Tenn.; sister, Mrs. Belle Brewer, Ooltewah; seven grandchildren.

            The funeral will be at 11 a. m. Friday in the West Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. J. Fred Johnson officiating.

            Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home.
