Mildred Monds Tanner Age 85, of Chattanooga, died Thursday,
January 1, in a local Nursing Home. She was a member of Ridgedale
Church of Christ and was employed as a nurse for many years with Erlanger
Hospital and Oak Manor Nursing Home on Dodds Avenue in Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Tanner,
Sr. Survivors: son, Robert A. Tanner, Jr., Chattanooga; daughters,
Jeanette T. Farmer of Chattanooga and June T. Cooper of Ringgold, GA; 7
grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
She was descended from the prominent pioneer Fryar family
from Wauhatchie, TN. Her 4th great grandfather, Jeremiah Fryar, Sr.,
listed in 1778 on an Indian War roster. He fought in John Sevier's
Etowah Campaign in 1798 and also in the War of 1812 under the Company of
Capt. William Christian in Roane County, TN. He bought 160 acres of
land in 1820 in the Mountain Creek area and settled with his family there.
Graveside services were Friday, 11 a.m. at Lakewood Memory Gardens, east
with minister John Cupp officiating.
Arrangements were by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral
Home.
