Presley Roofus Lomenick

This photo was graciously provided to me by Anne McDaniel.  Presley was born December 23, 1817 in Newberry Co., SC and died (by hanging) July 1862/1863? in
Hamilton Co., TN on his farm.  The story goes that he was hung by his neighbors during the Civil War (he was not a participant and talked strongly against the war in general, supporting neither side) since they didn't like his attitude.  Names of his murderers are unknown.  It has been told that his sons and cousins tracked down his killers after the war and killed them all, some located as far away as Ft. Smith,
Arkansas.  Per Goodspeed, Pressley was a surveyor for the county from 1848 to 1854.  He was married (we believe) twice.  First to Elizabeth Daugherty, and second to Elivina Elizabeth Simpson.  He was also a school teacher in Hamilton Co., TN in 1846.  He owned 180 acres on Walden's Ridge on the waters of Middle Creek.  He had the following children:
Mary J., b: 1842 d: 1874

James Augustus, b: 1845 (Confederate veteran said to have killed his fathers murderers) married Sarah C. Phillips d AL.

William C., b: 1848 (believed to have assisted James in quest to avenge
fathers murder) married Sarah Golden.

Roseline, b: 1849 (my direct line) married John Edward Oliphant d Camden,
AR

David, b: 1851, died of cholera 1874

Samuel Saul, b: 1853 d: after 1875

Amanda A., b: 1855, married James Madison Carter d: Stephens Co., OK

Charlotte Emily Hammond, b: 1857  d: 1861

Thomas Fletcher, b: 1859 m: Cordelia Douglas d: 1923, nickname was Pone
