Robert Scott "Bob" Davis is director of the Family and Regional History Program, Wallace State Community College, Hanceville, Alabama. His program pioneers genealogy and family history in a college environment. As a professor at Wallace State, he teaches genealogy, geography, and history. He holds a master of education degree in history from North Georgia College and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Currently, Professor Davis is doing more graduate work at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He is also a graduate of the Institute of Documentary Editing of the National Historical Records Publications Commission.

Professor Davis’ more than 1,000 publications on records and research include guides to doing research in Alabama and Georgia. He also wrote the chapters on Alabama and Georgia for the current edition of Ancestry’s Redbook. His articles have appeared in such periodicals as Ancestry, The American Genealogist, Heritage Quest, The North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal, and The National Genealogical Society Quarterly, as well as in many archival, education, history, library, and other professional journals. As a private citizen, he has worked on many efforts in Alabama and Georgia to encourage the saving of historical records, including as a speaker at hundreds of meetings of genealogical and historical societies. In 2006, the American Association for State and Local History awarded the program that he has built up with its Outstanding Leadership in History Award of Merit, Director of the Family and Regional. Linda Moss Mines

"Shaping Their Destiny: The Historical Record" 

Linda Moss Mines, the Chairman of the History and Social Sciences Department at Girls Preparatory School, was named Hamilton County Historian in 2005 by Mayor Claude Ramsey and the Hamilton County Commission.  At GPS, she teaches AP United States Government, AP Comparative Government, Constitutional Law and the Modern American Presidency.  She was recently named the DAR's 2005 TENNESSEE AMERICAN HISTORY TEACHER.

Mrs. Mines obtained her B.S. and M.A. degrees in History and Political Science from Tennessee Technological University and completed her doctoral coursework in Law and Administration from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She active in the Civil War Roundtable, the Kiwanis Club's Key Club program and numerous other historical, patriotic and genealogical organizations. Linda and her husband, Tony, own Art Creations and Art Accent here in Chattanooga and are the parents of two children.


 

Mary Helms
"Locating Your Southern Roots in the Hamilton County Library"

Mary Helms, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, has served as head of the Local History and Genealogy Department of the Chattanooga - Hamilton County Bicentennial Library since 2002. She received her MA in Librarianship from Emory University and has conducted genealogy classes for the library and throughout Hamilton County. As an avid genealogists, Ms. Helms has traveled extensively in her research, is a member of the Hamilton County Genealogical Society and for the past two years has attended the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research at Samford University.

 

Rufus Williamson
" The Philadelphia Wagon Road"

With more than thirty years experience in genealogical research, Rufus Williamson has traveled the United States and Ireland in search of his ancestral roots. Born in Walker county Georgia, Mr. Williamson received his education in the schools of Hamilton County TN and earned his B.A. degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is currently President of Delta Genealogical Society, is a member of the National Genealogical Society, the Genealogical Society of Rockingham and Stokes Counties NC, Friends of the National Archives Southeast Region, and serves on the executive committee of the Hamilton County Tennessee Genealogical Society. He has written and published articles for Southern Roots and Shoots and has conducted genealogical workshops for several regional organizations and libraries. He has also attended more than twenty national seminars presented by the National Genealogical Society, The Federation of Genealogical Societies, and many Southeastern workshops.

 

Dan Raineer
" American Huguenots"

Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Dan Rineer attended Maryville College and the University of Tennessee where he majored in French. His profession in the life insurance business began in 1968 with Provident Life where he retired in 1995, after twenty-seven years of service. Mr. Rineer has traveled extensively throughout Europe, including seven trips to France where he oftentimes conducted genealogical research on the Huguenots. Mr. Rineer is very active in church and volunteer services and is an active member in the local Huguenot Society. 

 

 

James Douthat
"The Black Hole of Southern Genealogy"
 

James Douthat, owner of Mountain Press, a publishing house for historic and genealogical materials for most of the southern states, serves as President of the Signal Mountain Tennessee Genealogical Society, is editor of “Tennessee History and Genealogy,” founding editor of the Chattanooga Area Historical Association’s Journal, and a fifteen year past President of the Delta Genealogical Society. Mr. Douthat also holds membership in over seventy-five genealogical and historical societies across the country.

 A retired Methodist minister of 25 years, Mr. Douthat holds a BA and two Masters Degrees from Bluefield College , V. P. I, Emory University , and Tennessee Tech. He travels extensively across the southeast representing his publishing company and is a frequent and highly respected speaker at genealogical and historical workshops across the United States .
