Tennessee Genealogy Society
Copies of any Tennessee State death certificate, for the years 1908 - 1912 and 1914 - 1960, may be obtained through the HCTGS. Death certificates after 1960 must be requested from the Tennessee Department of Health Vital Records. The fee for our service is $8.00 each for a PRINTED COPY delivered by USPS First Class Mail or $6.00 each for a DIGITAL IMAGE (.JPG) by e-mail. An exact year of death must be provided. If an exact year is not known, additional years may be searched for a fee of $5.00 per year. We will contact you by e-mail if additional searches are required. If we are unable to locate the death certificate your payment will be retained for the search. Requests may be made on-line or by mail.
Please provide as much information about the deceased as possible. The month and day of death, as well as birth date are not totally necessary, but may increase the accuracy of the search. However, we MUST have the exact year in which the person died unless additional searches are requested.
We make every attempt to process your request as quickly as
possible. Delivery times will vary according number of certificates requested,
method of delivery, availability, library hours, etc. Please allow three (3) to
seven (7) days to receive your request.
