Copies of Hamilton County obituaries published in the Chattanooga Times and Chattanooga Free Press for the years 1897 through 2012, may be obtained through the Hamilton County Genealogy Society. The fee for this service is:

If we are unable to locate an obituary, your payment will be retained for the search and notification will be sent by mail or e-mail.
You can search the Chattanooga - Hamilton County Library obituary database to locate available names and dates of publication. Then make your request for copies using one of the methods listed below. We make every attempt to process your request as quickly as possible. Delivery times will vary according number of obituaries requested, method of delivery, availability, library hours, etc. Please allow at least seven (7) to ten (10) days to receive your request.
The
library database is an index to obituaries in Chattanooga newspapers from 1897 to
present. Deaths
for the current year will not appear in the database until the following year.
Entries
in the database prior to 1951 were made on a selective basis. If the obituary you request is not in the
index we will search the newspaper only if an exact death date (month, day and
year) is provided. If no obituary is located the fee will be retained for the
search.
